Uganda is endowed with beautiful forests which are valuable for providing habitat and water for wildlife, conserving the soil, and for recreational activities such as camping and forest walks. Forests in Uganda include: Mabira Forest, Budongo Forest, Kibale Forest, Bwindi Forest and Mpanga Forest Reserves. Forests in Uganda are famous for endangered species of primates such as Chimpanzees and Gorillas. In fact, Uganda is the most attractive country in Africa for bird watching, not only to because of its remarkable avian diversity (over 1000 bird species) , but also because it offers easy access to several bird-rich habitats that are difficult to reach else where.
UWEC thus acts as a window on Uganda by having a representation of the Budongo Forest in which 11 chimpanzees are housed and over 250 species of birds range freely between the forests. For those who love forest walks, while taking in the crispy air and rich scent of mother earth, we have another 1km forest walk best taken at any time of the day.
